Easter !
For many christian it means the ressurection of Christ and it is the symbole of new life. In France there is many traditions
around Easter, mixing pagan origins and christian culture. Here some of them : - In the French countryside, young people
from villages around get together few days before easter and at night go from houses to houses, singing a song about the Christ
suffering. At the end of the song they shout "some eggs, some eggs" and the host of the house has to give them some fresh
eggs and sometimes he give a drink too. If the people do not respond, the young people through eggs at the house as a sign
of shame. At the end of the night, the young people make a big meal where they eat the collected eggs.
-Easter is
the time where people eat eggs, in France, every backeries and sweets shops produce a variety of chocolat or sugar eggs of
different sizes. Children in families decorate hard boiled eggs and some churches sell chocolate eggs at the end of their
services. -In the North and East of France, the germanic influence brought the tradition of hunting eggs on Easter morning.
Children get dress and take a little basket with them and run into the garden to pick up eggs their parents hide the night
before or from the tradition that the rabbit brought. It is why we can find chocolat rabbit in stores as well as eggs. Nowadays,
town halls around Paris organise for children a chocolat eggs hunt in public gardens and parcs on Easter morning.
